Fitness Clubs & Pools

If you don’t make it to Saigon Water park or one of its recent clones, there are several fine swimming pools at plush tourist hotels. Facilities, but you must pay an addmission of US$ 5 to US$10 per day. Hotels offering access to their pools include the omni Metropole, Palace and Rex

There are a number of less-exprensive public pools and some of the newer ones are in very good condition. These pools charge by the hour and this works out to be very cheap, if you’re staying only a short time.

Lam Son Pool : tel 835 8028, 342 Tran Binh Trong, District 5pm, admission 10.000d per hour. after 5pm 15000d; open 8am-8pm daily) is one such place and has an Olympic – sized pool. Or you can visit the pool at the Workers’ club ( Central HCMC map; 930 1819 , 55B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai sitrict 3, admission 15.000d per hour)

The international Club ( tel 8657695, 285 B Cach Mang Thang Tam. District 10, admission 30.000d, open 9am – mignight daily) also has a mid – sixed outdoor swimming pool, as well as a sauna and steam rooms, an exercise gym and beauty salon inside. There is also a massage service, and a 120,000d ticket entitles you to a 50 minute rub-down and all-day use of the club’s facilities. However there are definitely better places for a maggagein town. notably spa tropic.

If you’re interested in martial arts, the best place to see Thai Cuc Quyen is at Cong Vietn Van Hoa Park or the Cholon district where there is a large ethnic –Chineses population.

In the past several years a slew of water parks have appeared in and around HCMC. They’re the perfect antidote for anyone who needs to cool down from an overdose of pagodas and museums. Any one with kids and a half-day to spare will quickly come to appreciate these wet and wonderful play grounds on a sweltering day. Bring a waterproof camera. The best time to avoid the crowds is between 11am and 2pm pn week days, but this is also the best time of day to get sunburnt

Saigon Water Park (Tel 897 0456, Kha Van Can str, Adult/child 60,000/35,000d, swim only ticket 35,000d, open 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 9am – 8pm Sat, 8am – 8pm Sun & phublic holidays) is a giant oasis in the suburbs. This re-freshing complex on the banks of the Saigon River is chock-full of pools and water rides. including loop-the-loop slides, a children’s wading pool and even a ‘wave pool’. There is also a restaurant here with fine views over the river. Saigon Water Park is in the Thu Duc District. It’s too far for cuclos, but uoi can take a meter taxi for about 50,000d, or catch a shuttle bus from Ben Thanh Market for 5000d.

Shark Water Land ( Cho Lon, Tel 853 7867, Ham Tu Str,. District 5; admission 30,000-50,000d, open 8am-9pm daily) may not be the most clever name to call a swimming venue, but it’s a good spot if you happen to be in Cho Lon. They have both pools and slides. A bit further afield is the Dam Sen Water Park, and if all these aren’t enough Vietnam Water World is way out of town. in the eastern suburbs,.

Massage & Spas

One of the best and cheapest rub-downs in town can be hed at the Vietnamese traditional Massage Institute ( Pham Ngu Lao Area Map; Tel 839 6697, 185 Cong Quynh; open 9am -9pm daily). here you can enjoy a no-nonsense massage performed by a well-trained blind masseur from the Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Blind. The cost is just 30,000d per hour. There is also a sauna room available for 30,000d per hour. There are 18 masseurs on call, so reservations are not necessary.

One place to spoil yourself on a top notch “proper” massage is Spa Tropic (Central HCMC map; Tel 822 8895, email;; 187b Hai Ba Trung, District 3, open 10am – 8pm daily). This Zen-like beauty spa offers an array of aromatherapy becial treatments (US$30), body treatments (US$30-45) and therapeutic massage ( From US$25), Spa Tropic can be found in the same quiet alley as Tib Restaurant. Call ahead for reservations.

Most upmarket hotels offer some kind of massage service, some more legitimate than others.
