Lang Co Beach

Lang Co Beach

Lang Co is a pretty, island-like stretch of palm-shaded sand with a crystal-clear, turquoise-blue lagoon on one side and many kilometres of beachfront facing the South China Sea on the other. It’s a tranquil spot where lots of travellers make a lunch stop and some spend night. If you’re travelling on one of the “open tours” along the coast, this makes a fine place to hop off for a night or two, depending, of course, on the weather and season.

The beach here is best enjoyed between April and July. From late August till November, rains are frequent, and during the chilly months, from December toFebruary, it may serve best as just a lunch stop.

There are spectacular views of Lang Co, just north of Hai Van Pass, from both National Hwy 1 and from the trains linking Danang and Hue.

Places to Stay & Eat

Lang Co Hotel (tel 874426; doubles with/without bath US$8/6, triple/quad without bath US$10/12, double/triples withbath, hot water & air-con US$12/15), in a shaded, garden-like compound close to the beach, is a large hotel run by the gorvernment trade union. It’s fine and friendly if a bit tatty (but renovations are planned) and is recomended. Bicycles can be hired for 10,000d a day, and you can take private boat trip around the lagoon for 150,000d; boats take up to 15 people – if you want to share costs. There is a reasonably priced, good beach-front seafood restaurant called Hai Duogn on site.

Thanh Tam Seaside Resort (tel 874456; fan room US$10-15) is about 1km north of Lang Co Hotel and has basic beachfront cottages for US$10; strangely, the more expensive rooms look onto a very attactive patch of concrete that’s been designateda garage. The outdoor terrace restaurant has great views and the menu is OK.

Lang Co Beach Resort (tel 973555;; air-con room from US$60) is a stylish beachfront resort with a pool and simple, elegant rooms.

Getting There & Away

Bus Buses pass through daily, en route for Hue (noon, US$3), Danang (10am; US$3), HoiAn (4pm, US$3), and HaNoi (4.30pm, US$ 14).

Train Served by nonexpress trains, Lang Co train Stationis 3km from the beach. Finding someone to take you from the train station to the beach by motobike shouldn’t be difficult.

Car and Motorbike Lang Co is 35km norht of DaNang over Hai Van Pass.
